A 19-year-old student died in Michigan after being shot through the ground at a house party.

According to reports from the local networks Wood and Fox 17, the student of the Grand Valley State University, Connor Lotterman, was shot on Friday, May 9th, around 11:00 p.m. during an incident in a house in Tallmadge Township, west of Grand Rapids.

The deputies of the Sheriff (OCSO) in Ottawa County informed the outlets that the investigators, while the shootout is considered accidentally, are of the view that a suspect who was on the second floor of the house fired a weapon several times through the floor and a ball of lottery hit the head.

The house party consisted of around 10 to 20 people, and the MPs believe that all people present knew each other, the outlets reported.

“During this party one of the topics got a firearm there and fired several rounds from a bedroom on the upper floor through the floor through the ceiling,” said Jake Sparks, captain of the Detective Bureau on Ocso to Fox 17.

Sparks said Wood that the investigators also believe that alcohol was a factor for the shootout.

“The shootout was pretty intended,” said Sparks. “Several rounds were fired. It was not as if it were a random discharge of one shots. This was released. Although the result of the shootout led to accidental death, this shootout was intended.”

Lotterman was later taken to a local hospital, and an obituary found that on Saturday, May 10th, he died a day later.

The public prosecutors of the district of Ottawa are considering pursuing criminal charges against the 20-year-old, a 20-year-old, Sparks told the outlets.

The Grand Valley State University later spoke about Lotterman's death and told the outlets in a statement: “The Grand Valley community is sad about Connor's tragic death.”

“In the name of President Mantella, the Laker Community is expanding our deepest sympathy for his family and friends,” said GVSU Dean of the students, Aaron Haight. “Students can use the supply process and the university advisory center for support and resources in this difficult time. Faculty and employees can access employees to support employees.”

Sparks also said Wood that the fatal incident should remind you as a memory of gun owners to keep the weapons properly.

“If you have firearms that are out, lock them away and separate them from ammunition,” he said. “Weapons, trigger guards, trigger locks, all of these things can be important to ensure that nothing tragic happens.”
