Security video captures the fall of trees when Tornado CWE district flashes

St. Louis, Mo (first Alert 4) – video from a block in the Central West End shows that trees fall on cars while the storm swept through the area on Friday.

The clip, which was absorbed by a car parked on the street, shows the power of the EF-3 tornado that drove through it on its 22-mile path.

On Sunday morning, the neighbors quickly worked on roofs and safe windows and expected another storm to the area on Monday.

John Wheeler, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years, was on his office on the third floor when the storm hit.

“When I went around my desk, hell was released,” he said.

Other neighbors had similar stories about the rapid storm and said they hardly had time to protect themselves. A man had just come through his cellar door when his fireplace fell directly in the alley, where he had just gone.

The Wheeler house had considerable roof damage and debris in his garden. Most of the houses in his block had been at least damaged. Some looked like they could be total losses.

“We have some houses here that miss their third floor,” said Wheeler.

Like many others, Wheeler was accompanied by friends and family on Sunday to help with the clean -up work. He said it emphasized the importance of the community after a catastrophe.

“You have to do what you can do yourself,” said Wheeler. “As soon as you have that, everything you can do for another person exceeds your priority list. We have benefited from it and we will try to pass them on.”
