The authorities examine that the Mexican ship of the Mexican Navy has crashed against the Brooklyn Bridge

The authorities put together what happened when a Mexican naval ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge and killed two people at the weekend.

Marine experts said the tides and the water conditions in the close passage were to blame, while the mayor of New York and the police argued that the captain of the ship lost control due to mechanical problems.

In an explanation that was distributed to US media, a spokesman for the city's emergency management said that the Cuauhtemoc was in the wrong direction and it was never intended to sail under the bridge.

We know the following.

What happened?

The spectators were horrified when they saw the marine training ship plunged into the bridge.

The ship collided with the underside of the bridge, and the masts snapped when it drifted towards the promenade, where the film material fleeed people when it came closer.

Sailors could also be seen in the rigging of the damaged mast, but nobody fell into the water, the authorities said.

Nineteen people were injured in the collision.

One of the victims was 20-year-old Cadet America Yamilet Sanchez, who fell from one of the ship's masts, confirmed the Associated Press.

Videos show heavy traffic on the water over the time of the incident at 8:20 p.m.

The Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum regretted the loss of the two crew members.

“Our solidarity and support go to your families,” said Ms. Sheinbaum on the social media platform X.

The ship was on an advertising tour and was intended for Iceland.

Why did it happen?

The causes of the crash still have to be confirmed, but the National Transportation Safety Board is examined.

Wilson Aramboles, head of the New York police authority, said a first report indicated that the pilot of the ship has lost power due to a mechanical problem, even though the officials warned that the information was temporarily.

At the time of the crash, the ship moved through turbulent water.

The flood had just turned and a quick current drove up the East River when the wind went in.

In the port of New York New York, tight channels, strong winds and vertebrae – circular currents that move against the river – all contribute to a challenging passage.

Sal Mercliano, a former merchant marine who has operated several ships through the port, told The Associated Press that “worst scenarios”-the height of the ship, a strong stream, heavy wind and the lack of a controlled tractor escort everything contributed to the tragedy.

“The cautious thing would have been to leave two hours earlier when the flood went out. That would have been the ideal time,” said Mercliano, who writes a widespread mail order.

“But I don't think you've ever imagined that your engine would have driven her into the bridge.”

Videos show that a tractor was close to the Cuauhtemoc at the time of the crash.

The persecution of data from marine traffic and eyewitness videos show that the tractor, the Charles D. McAllister, gently nudged the ship when it went back into the canal, but fell off before turning the ship out.

Seconds later, when the ship continued to go in the wrong direction, the towboat tried to overtake the ship, but came too late to wedge between the fast moving ship and the Brooklyn Riverbank.

McAllister Towing, the company that would have operated the tractor and was responsible for every docking pilot on board, rejected an opinion.

After the crash of last year in Baltimore, Mr. Mercliano said that the port authorities had tightened the rules there to request a tractor and slower speeds for ships that sailed through the port of the port after the partially collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.

But the ship caused this collision, the Dali, was 50 times heavier than the Cuauhtemoc.

What is being examined?

Mr. Mercliano said the investigators would rate whether the Mexican crew carried out the recommended security tests before they left.

As a rule, this includes testing the propeller, rudder and drive of the engine six to 12 hours in advance to ensure that everything works properly and nothing is left to chance.

“It's not like your car where you just throw your gear lever,” he said.

The 142-year-old Brooklyn Bridge had no serious damage.

Charging and modern warships generally avoid the area due to the low level of the bridges in the New York port.

However, this is not the first time that a ship came into the Brooklyn Bridge.

According to the New York Times, the Edward J. Lawrence hit the bridge in 1921 when the schooner was towed under the central span.

About 10 years later, a freighter struck a steel jet onto the bridge and hooded three of the ship masts.

The captain accused what he characterized as an unusually high flood.

In 1986 a South Korean freight ship scratched the underside of the bridge and destroyed one of the ship's radar devices.

The damaged ship was moored at Pier 35 in Lower Manhattan and a stream of people, including investigators and crew, was seen that the ship was distributing.

The ship is rated and the coast guard has set up a 46-meter security zone around it.

A report by the National Transportation Safety Board could take months.
