The northeastern jewel of India, Mizoram, is now a member of the emerging tourist destinations in India and in the 2024–2025 financial year an increase in travel calculation by 114%. The state, which was once on the edge of the travel industry, is now increasingly drawing attention from both local and international travelers.

A record year for Mizoram tourism

In February 2025, Mizoram reported more than twice the 219,114 visitors, which they welcomed in 2023-2024 in February 2025. The majority of this number, 464,742 tourists, were domestic travelers, while 5,011 came from international visitors from over 80 countries, including the United States, Great Britain, China, Japan and Germany. The last figures for March 2025 are still evaluated, but the officials expect the statistics of the end of the year to confirm this strong upward trend.

In order to put this growth in the right perspective, Mizoram's tourism sector was hit by pandemic and fell to only 20,564 visitors in 2020–21. Since then there has been a steady recovery: 132,000 in 2021–22, rose to 222,226 in 2022-23 and is now growing in a leap in 2024-25.

The main reason for this growth is the responsible Mizoram responsible tourist policy, which focuses on the sustainable tourism of all initiatives in the state. The focus is on local participation, the creation of livelihood and the promotion of community-based tourism. For this reason, most people who visited the state were here to explore the natural bounty and beauty of the state.
