Telegram gives 50,000 US dollars for a video that reveals “cheap imitators” WhatsApp

Another round of the exciting round Telegram against WhatsApp -beef, and someone could have an additional 50,000 US dollars on their bank account if they win the latest Telegram competition.

This is the first competition for content manufacturers (AVID telegram users may have heard that the popular messaging app has a lot of ongoing competitions, but but are aimed at developers). The goal is really, very simple. All you have to do is create a viral video that praises how Telegram was “always years before its cheap imitator – WhatsApp”.

This is how Pavel Durov – billionaire, CEO and founder of Telegram – presents the competition His own telegram account:

As stated by Durov himself, the competition comes in response to reports that WhatsApp campaigned for telegrams. The organizers say that the new campaign aims to raise awareness among WhatsApp users, many of whom may not know that the characteristics they rely were done by telegram pioneering work years ago.

To support the participants, Telegram shared a list of 30 remarkable functions that were first introduced – all later implemented by WhatsApp. The list is not comprehensive and does not contain many telegram functions that still have no equivalent for WhatsApp, and Durov Brags.

The Contest Prize Fund is up to 50,000 US dollars, the deadline is 23:59 (Dubai time -see, Durov is located in Dubai) on May 26, 2025. Everyone can take part and the results will be announced next June.

There are some requirements such as:

  • All on the screen and spoken content must be in English
  • The video must not be longer than 180 seconds (that's three minutes)
  • AI tools are permitted as additional help

The evaluation process selects the videos that achieve the clarity, visual impact, memorial potential and virality, as the organizers say, a high number of points. The video should be good for platforms such as Tik-Tok, IG rolls, YouTube shorts and more.

Shortly after the announcement of the competition, Durov made another claim to his telegram account -that a Western European government (“probably”, he says, added a baguette -emoji who “has decommissioned conservative voices in Romania” on Sunday, May 18th.
