The former senior adviser is exposed to death

Han Yong, a former high -ranking national political consultant, was sentenced to two years of reparation on Monday because he had accepted bribes, a court in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang said.

Han was also robbed of his political rights for life and had confiscated all of his personal assets, according to the decision of the Court of the Nanning Intermediate Court. The court ordered that his illegal profits and all interest earned by them will be handed over to the National Ministry of Finance.

An investigation showed that Han took advantage of his positions and influence in the provinces of Jilin and Shaanxi as well as in the autonomous region of Xinjiang Uygur for other departments and individuals between 1993 and 2023.

The court said that Hans was the crime of bribery, with the amount “extremely large” and the damage to the interests of the country and people being “extremely large”. It is said that his crimes justified a death sentence.

However, the court said that it decided to impose a suspended death sentence because Han confessed to the crime, had regrets, did not receive some of the bribes, voluntarily revealed some bribes that were previously unknown to the investigators and had voluntarily returned their illegal profits.

In China, a suspended death sentence is usually converted to life in prison if the inmate does not commit any further crimes during the two -year exhaustion. This sentence can be reduced further due to the good behavior.

Han, 68, comes from the province of Jilin. The public records show that he began his career in 1974 and had joined the China's Communist Party in 1976. After a degree in law, he held positions as a public prosecutor and in disciplinary commissions in Jilin and Xinjiang.

At the beginning of 2016 he became chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the political conference of the Chinese people. From March 2022 to March 2023, he was deputy head of the committee for the population, resources and environment of the CPPCC national committee, China's top political advisory committee.

He was examined in October 2023 and excluded from the party in April last year. He was prosecuted in August due to alleged bribery, and his case was heard publicly in December before the Nanning Court.
