Woman who was killed in Madison County late Sunday evening.

Madison Co., Ala. (Waff) – A shooting examination is in progress after a woman was shot several times on Sunday evening.

According to officials from Madison County's sheriff, the MPs reacted to a shootout at the steppe court.

When the MPs arrived, they found a female victim in the house who suffered from several shotguns.

The woman was cared for on site before being brought to Huntsville Hospital in a critical condition. Officials say she was declared dead when she arrived.

The victim's husband, 64-year-old Gary Robert Wharton, was taken to the hospital due to existing medical concerns, say officials.

After his release, he was arrested and charged with murder. He was admitted to Madison County's prison, where he is recorded without bond.

Officials say that the preliminary results indicate that the shootout seems to be domestic violence.

The shootout is examined.
