The Ukraine beats Russia's 'Boyko Towers' in Schwarzsee: Video

Ukrainian drones beat Russian -controlled gas production platforms and a radar system in the Black Sea.

According to Ukrainian officials, the operation used both air and maritime drones to target platforms near Crimea, which have been occupied by Russia since 2015.

Videos of the strikes are widespread, but the independent review of the exact damage is not available. The Russian authorities did not respond publicly to the reported attack.

Why is it important

The strikes on the Black Sea platforms are intensifying the use of unmanned systems in Ukraine in the maritime area and the target infrastructure that Russia uses for surveillance and logistics.

The campaign follows a pattern of the increasing drone warfare around the Crimea and the Black Sea since 2022, events that have postponed regional power balance and threatened Russian military capabilities, and forced the Black Sea fleet to withdraw deeper in Russian waters.

The ongoing competition in this area has a direct impact on shipping, energy safety and the eastern flank of NATO, whereby the USA and its allies monitor the area exactly, since the pension disorders and regional instability could weigh international markets.

What to know?

The Ukraine Security Service (SBU) announced on May 19, 2025 that a special operation that uses both air and marine drones destroyed a Russian “Neva” radar system and the supply camp for gas production platforms in the Black Sea near the Crimean Coast. The mission was carried out by the 13th main directorate of the SBU for military counter -intertigence, which the operation described as “two types of drones” “tandem”.

The SBU said that the platforms were used by Russian armed forces to monitor air and sea activities as well as for storing supplies and apartment users. The security service identified the destroyed radar as crucial for the regional surveillance skills of Russia.

The Ukrainian marine released a video that was a Ukrainian sea granning that was also known as “Sea Baby” and approached the platforms, with large explosions and at least one platform that catches fire.

Another segment of the film material seemed to show an unemployed aircraft (UAV) that lifts off from a seabar before it apparently exploded on the platform. Ukrainian military sources claim that these drones can carry almost a ton of explosives over distances of up to 621 miles.

Ukraine has prioritized unmanned marine systems in its campaign against Russian armed forces in the Black Sea. The SBU previously used naval and air piles for attacks on the Kerch bridge and the Russian warships.

By the end of 2024, the Ukrainian officials claimed to have destroyed or disabled about a third of the Russia's Black Sea fleet with such tactics that used Sea-Baby and Magura drones.

What people say

Ukrainian naval declaration, official Facebook page, May 2025: “The hunt for the enemy in the Black Sea continues. Navy Naval drones have carried out targeted strikes for Russian goals. Hostish surveillance systems on captivated gas platforms off the coast of the temporarily occupied crime were destroyed. The occupiers do not remain on our territory – we will bring them anywhere.”

What happens next

From May 2025, the Ukrainian civil servants stated that operations with marine and air and air drones in the Black Sea are continued with a goal of eliminating the Russian military infrastructure of occupied offshore platforms and refusing the surveillance ability of Russia. Analysts suggest that further strikes could follow and observers are waiting for official military and diplomatic answers from Moscow.
