Grizzlies vs Piston's end result, highlights: Memphis deserves a critical victory without yes Morant

Nothing was easy for the grizzlies on Saturday evening in Detroit, but they achieved a critical victory over the pistons without Star Guard yes Morant.

Morant was announced as a starter for the game, but was excluded shortly before Tippoff because of an illness. The game was constantly tight, but the grizzlies received enough production from their squad to achieve a 109-103 victory.

Scotty Pippen Jr. began at Morants and was effective, scored 15 points and got six rebounds. Center Zach Edey was dominant in the interior and broke a grizzlies rookie record with a career high of 21 rebounds. Desmond Bane carried the grizzlies down the route, ended with 38 points and came to Big Shot with Big Shot in the last few minutes.

It was an ugly game and no team got into an offensive rhythm. The All-Star Guard of Detroit, Cade Cunningham, returned with a calf injury after six games and scored 25 points. But it wasn't enough and the grizzlies achieved an important victory.

Memphis (46-32) fights to stay out of the Western Conference Play-in. The grizzlies will be back in action in Charlotte on Tuesday.
