World Pride comes to Washington in the shadow of the Trump administration

Washington -The Welcome concert by World Pride 2025 with Pop -ikone Shakira in the National Stadium is not until May 31. For host City Washington, DC, the celebrations began with a number of localized Pride events on Saturday, including Trans Pride.

Hundreds of LGBTQ ranges, seminars, parties, after parties and after-finger parties are planned for the next three weeks in the country's capital, including Black Pride and Latin. Everything culminates on June 7th and 8th at a two -day final party with a parade, a rally and concerts on the Pennsylvania Avenue of Cynthia Erivo and Doechii.

The Biannual International event usually attracts more than a million visitors from all over the world and in the entire LGBTQ spectrum. This year's events will be a special response and a certain feeling of the community width due to the government of President Donald Trump.

Trump's public antipathy for trans protection and drag shows has already prompted two international LGBTQ organizations, Eugale Canada and the African Human Rights Coalition to publish warnings against trips to the USA. The main concern is that trans or non -bobsleigh people are difficult to get into the country if the officials of passport control enforce the strict binary view of gender status.

“I think it is a fair assumption that the international figures will not be so high due to the climate and uncertainties,” said Ryan Bos, Executive of Capital Pride Alliance. “At the same time, we know that there is an urgency and meaning to show up and ensure that we remain visible and see and protect our freedom.”

Fear of Trump's approach to LGBTQ rights

The opposition to transgender rights was an important point for Trump's presidential campaign last year and has been pursuing people as just male or female since returning to the White House in January. Keep away transgender girls and women from sports competitions that displace women for women, pursue transgender military troops and the foundation of the federal government, which limits care for care at the age of perpetrators and threats at the age of 19 for the assessment of gender books.

All efforts are challenged in court; The judges have put some guidelines in the queue, but have the pressure to advance transgender service members. An Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research survey showed some of his efforts.

In February, Trump started a takeover in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and publicly promised drag shows from the stadiums of the institution. Within a few days after this takeover, the Kennedy Center decreased abruptly to organize the International Pride Orchestra as part of a one-week series of World Pride CrossOVER events entitled Tapestry of Pride. After this cancellation, the Capital Pride Alliance canceled all week and moved some of the tapissery events to alternative venues.

Some potential international participants have already announced plans to skip this year's events, either for fear of harassment or as a boycott against Trump's politics. However, others have asked for mobilization to flood capital and argue that the production of a presence in potentially enemy rooms is the exact and proud history of the community.

“We have been here before. There is nothing new under the sun,” said Zachary Parker, member of the DC Council, who is gay. “While this is absolutely territory, a struggle for humanity is not new to those in the LGBTQ+ community.”

The occurrence could have a symbolic weight

A recently displayed “The Symbolic Weight of Appearance”, which was shown in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade in the Blade, despite the legitimate concerns.

“If we determine the precedent that global LGBTQI+ events in the context of right -wing or against LGBTQI+ governments do not occur, we will effectively disqualify a growing list of countries from hosting,” wrote Ruiz. “For those who say that the pride of World in DC normalizes the policy of Trump, I say: Which greater statement than queere, trans, intersexual and non -binary people from all over the world who are defiantly gather in his capital? What is more powerful than being visible where he would rather disappear?”

According to estimates, the last world sided in 2023 moved more than 1 million visitors to Sydney, Australia. It is still too early to say whether the figures will match them this year, but the organizers admit that they expect the international number of visitors to be affected.

Destination DC, which pursues the hotel booking figures, estimated that the bookings for this year during the global dump were around 10% behind the same period in 2024. However, the organization states in an explanation that the figures last year could be replaced by a “big city congress” that coincided with the last week of the world.

When the date approaches, organizers and supporters predict an unforgettable party. If international participation is measurable this year, as many predict, the hope that domestic participants will apply part of the participation.

“The revolution is now,” said Parker, member of the DC Council. “There is no greater demonstration of the resistance than present and it is, and that is what welcoming dwells will represent for millions of people.”
