LMPD publishes body camera video of the Crescent Hill Officer-Involved shooting

Louisville, Ky. (Wave) – LMPD has published Body Camera video of a shootout involved by officer in the neighborhood of Crescent Hill.

The police were called in reports about a man who smashed windows in a condominium complex in the 3301 block of the Avenue windows. This man was later identified as a 36-year-old Ahtume Martell Lamar McCollum.

Safety video in the apartment of a neighbor shows the moments when McCollum broke into her house by breaking a window. McCollum grabs a knife from the woman's kitchen. Shortly afterwards, another neighbor hits the police a hectic call.

The 911 calls of the woman and a third neighbor were also published on the LMPD YouTube channel.

When officials arrive, McCollum is outside with a knife in the pocket.

LMPD identified the officials involved as Benjamin Klingenfus and Cody Chapelle.

The officers repeatedly ask McCollum to drop the knife and put his hands behind his back. They pack it to the ground and McCollum is seen as he is concerned with the knife and tries to stab chapelle.

Klingenfus first discharges his taser and then shot McCollum in the head.

The officers immediately start the HLW and call Ems to the scene. McCollum was later declared dead in the Uofl hospital.

Both leaders are on administrative leave, while the public integrity unit of the LMPD and the professional standard unit examines the incident. The criminal investigation is handed over to the office of the Commonwealth and checked by the Kentucky State Police.

“Incidents such as this, especially those that lead to the death of another person, have a significant impact on everyone who is involved,” said Emily McKinley, deputy LMPD LMPD. “Officers, it requires an extremely emotional tribute.

McKinley said Chapelle was wearing a “hard plate” vest that protected him from seriously injured protection.

“He is very lucky,” said McKinley. “If you are so close to a knife and so much strength that is coming to you. We are very happy that nobody was hurt and that Officer Chapelle was able to go home.”

McCollum's family published an explanation that reacted to the Body Camera video and said that McCollum was a veteran that had to deal with psychological problems.

The family published the following explanation of Wave News:
