The Ministry of Justice had asked the High Court to overthrow a decision of a federal judge in San Francisco, which enabled the temporary protection status (TPS) to remain for hundreds of thousands of migrants. TPS had expired on April 7th.

The status enables migrants who can legally live and work in the United States because their home countries are classified as unsafe. The Trump government has tried to revoke protection.
