Bastrop sees in the early stages of the housing estate; Residents speak concerns

The BASTROP community expressed concerns about a proposed fifth city administration district or Mud to support the infrastructure for the Ironwood Development Housing Project.

How we came here

The city council unanimously approved the development agreement for the Ironwood development project during a meeting on April 8.

The planning and zoning commission recommends creating the Bastrop County Mud No. 5 on May 1. The Council is expected to vote on this after the publication at the meeting on May 27th.

About the project

Preliminary plans for the 290 hectare iron wood development in the SH 304 and Lower Red Rock Road include 1,256 plots and 550 city houses. As part of the deal, the developer would annex land to the city and finance the infrastructure such as roads and supply companies through mud fees.

Those who opposed

The residents expressed concerns about drainage, impermeable coverage, unclear borders and limited public relations work. Some said they only found out about the project through word of mouth.

The city's employees said they followed the statutory announcement requirements, but are committed to improving communication.

Those for that

City officials emphasized that the approval of the bastrop sludge gives more control over developmental standards. If the developer is refused, he can obtain state approval instead.
