Dodgers are good and old. Should you try the NBA-style load management?

With the Lakers, Clippers and Kings, the sporty eyes of Los Angeles have turned to the Dodgers.

When you have seen the NBA and NHL playoffs, let us catch up with the Dodgers. After such a good start that people wondered whether the Dodgers could win every game, and after a few runs so bad that the Dodgers reached third place in the National League West twice, the opening month is over and the verdict is in: The Dodgers we thought they are.

They are in the first place, in the toughest division in the main leagues. They have 21 victories that have been most of every Dodgers team at the end of April since the beginning of the annual post -season appearance in 2013.

There are 29 Major League teams who start the season in the hope of getting into the playoffs, and then there are the Dodgers that start in October in March. This is all part of the plan for all fear of the injured jugs of the Dodgers.

The Dodgers woke up on Wednesday with 13 pitchers on the injured list, most of the Major League team and corresponded to the combined total of the rest of the NL way. You have 32 pitchers under control: on the active roster, on a small league option, on the injured list or in two-way status (Shohei Ohtani, which is expected to resume pitching later this season).

They don't try to find five start jugs and drive them all out all season. They try to have five healthy and effective starters for the post -season, and they try to maximize their chances by collecting as many jugs as possible with the support of an owner group who is willing to pay players for rehabilitation.

Last season nobody was Innings as Gavin Stone with 140. 2013, Clayton Kershaw 259 Innings, including the off -season.

However, since the Dodgers have become aware of managing the work loads of their starting jugs, they have not prioritized the management of the work burdens of their players in the most important position.

The Dodgers have the oldest group of position players in the majors, and the continuing success means an additional weeks according to the schedule every year.

In the past five years, Mookie Betts has had 205 Nach season bats and Freddie Freeman 175.

Dave Roberts, Manager of Dodgers, said the team discussed this problem, mainly in terms of catching. Will Smith had 105 bats last April and 76 in April; Backup Austin Barnes had 21 bats in April in April and 32 in April (and in April he beat 27 points .250 above his career average).

Among other things, Roberts said: “I don't know if this tax, playing an additional month, is necessarily a disadvantage for the following season.”

According to the President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman, the renowned research and development department of the Dodgers did not enter into this question.

“So much of our focus is on the pitching,” said Friedman, “and after a long season, the program outside the season looks what the ramp-up looks like in the season.

While “load management” is set up in the NBA lexicon, Roberts said that he was less concerned in baseball because the post -season contains more days off than the regular season, including almost a week after the regular season if your team is one of the two best seeds of every league.

“They are actually nervous and rested when we actually would like it,” said Roberts. “It is difficult.

“To spend Freddie Freeman of days to say that you manage his workload, I think some people feel better that they are ready for the post -season. There is no correlation. And it is not a precise science.”

Freeman said the Dodgers manage his workload, but not always with days off. On Tuesday evening, Freeman was removed after six Innerings when the Dodgers had a big lead.

“You do such good load management here,” said 35-year-old Freeman, “and I am reluctantly so that I can go on board with age.”

“I rooted myself that I would be paid to do a job and I do my job. It is difficult for me to get around: 'You don't do your job today.' “”

On Wednesday, Freeman followed in two runs and drove in two runs. The Dodgers ran the lead again and they removed it again after six innings.
