La County there is over 1,000 fees for criminal offenses under prop 36 in the raid of the retail break

Since Nathan Hochman reveals the most important enforcement efforts on the organized retail theft

The district prosecutor of Los Angeles, Nathan J. Hochman, announced that since December, according to a new state law, which has been committed to repetition theft, has been submitted by more than 1,000 crimes and has marked one of the most aggressive enforcement efforts in California since the approval of proposition 36 last year.

The measure that was overwhelmingly passed in November 2024 revised the existing laws to enable the public prosecutor to raise repeated theft offenses as crimes. Previously, theft below 950 US dollars were classified as offenders even for series offenders, unless the crime included violence or aggravating circumstances.

“The theft in retail has plagued our communities for too long,” said Hochman in an explanation. “With statement 36 we now use every available tool to blame repeated offenders and protect companies.”

One of the cases emphasized by Hochman's office includes Corry Summerville (38), which is exposed to 12 crimes from the same 7-eleven 7 eleven from West Angeles between January and March this year. Summerville, who had two convicts condemned before the theft and was on probation at that time, is also charged with violence against a shop assistant due to an incident of 2022.

The case is examined by the LAPD division West Los Angeles.

Prosecutors have also brought charges for larger operations. In one case, Alexandro Mojico, Jacqueline Galicia and Hertsel Enayati were charged for 28 crimes, including Grand Theft and organized retail theft. The authorities claim that the group had set the circuit breaker and other goods worth almost 42,000 US dollars from Home Depot and Lowes locations in Los Angeles County. This case is led by the organized task force of the California Highway Patrol.

Hochman emphasized the cooperation of the procedure and gave the joint task forces with LAPD, the Sheriff department of the Los Angeles County, CHP and federal partner who made arrests that have led to the fact that millions of dollars have been restored in the goods since January.

In order to strengthen the deterrent efforts, the DA office distributes 10,000 warning button to companies throughout the district. The stickers that can be displayed in stores are intended to signal that theft crimes are fully pursued.
