The use of a composite allocation value for lung transplantation list list improves the results

Monday, May 19, 2025 (Healthday News)-the waiting list results for lung transplants have improved considerably in the ERA of the Composite Allocation Score (CAS). This emerges from a study at the International Conference of the American Thoracic Society 2025, which was presented in San Francisco from May 18 to 21.

Mary Raddawi, MD of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City, and the colleagues carried out a retrospective cohort study that the United Network for Organ Sharing Registration maintained in order to evaluate the effects of the transplantation on the waiting list results (compound results of death or deletion on deterioration and transplant). The three rated cohorts were the ERA before November 2017, the ERA after November 2017 (November 2017 to March 2023) and the CAS-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-TAM.

The researchers found that in the period before November 2017, 11.2 percent of patients died by 8.4 percent in the CAS era at the time after November 2017 and 4.1 percent. In patients with the top 5 percent of the waiting list interlocy (WLU) lesson in the listing, 34.5 percent of patients died in the ERA in ERA in the period before November 2017 and 6.5 percent in the ERA of CAS. Before and after November 2017, the ERAs were associated with 3.3 times and 2.1 times higher risks for deaths/delisting compared to the CAS era. Before and after November 2017, the ERAs were associated with 8.0 times and 4.8 times higher risks for deaths/delisting for patients in the top 5 percent of the WLU in the listing compared to the CAS era. Compared to the CAS era, patients with a nose's channel with a high river in the list also had a much higher risk of deaths/delisting in the earlier eras (7.7 times or 5.3 times higher).

“We always want to make sure that every time we change the allocation system that improve the results, especially for our sick patients,” said Raddawi in an explanation. “This is a confirmation that we are on the right track.”
