Apple Watch SE 3: 3 reasons to consider upgrade and 3 reasons that you might want to skip

Apple Watch SE is the highlight in the Smartwatch series from Apple for those who want the best Apple Watch with a small budget. It is delivered with many functions that you would expect from a smartwatch without some of the more expensive frills that increase the price of series 10 and Ultra 2.

In 2025, a new version, the Apple Watch SE 3, promises the first budget upgrade in three years. Therefore, there are some exciting new functions and changes on the horizon.

So should you update? Who would be Apple SE 3 and what could be new for 2025? Here are some reasons to consider an upgrade, and some reasons why you may want to skip the potential next iteration.

Reasons to consider an upgrade …

Redesign

The Apple Watch SE 3 is expected to be the only model that receives a redesign this year. The Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 will largely match their ancestors, while the SE 3 should receive a design overhaul.

This does not mean that we get a big new form activity, but we should at least get a kind of tweak. The existing SE 2 is based on the design of the Apple Watch Series 8, and the obvious step is a design that reflects the more modern, slimmer Apple Watch series 10 of 2024. This could be worth a more lively advertisement and another upgrade that is worth your attention.

Larger display

A change to the form factor of the series 10 seems to be likely for the Apple Watch SE 3, which would pave the way for a larger display and chassis housing of 42 mm or 46 mm for the smaller or larger sizes. One of the most important reasons for the upgrade to the Apple Watch SE 3 could be a larger display with which you can read more text while scrolling and entering a much larger area.

New chip

The Apple Watch SE 2 is the S8 SIP, which is also borrowed from series 8. As such, it is ripe for an upgrade of the 2025 model, and the main candidate is the S11, which we would expect next year. While Apple saves Apple Watch SE by amazing some functions and parts, the chip is usually not of them. As such, we would expect the SE 3 to share the chip of series 11.

Reasons that you may want to skip

Without health characteristics

While the Apple Watch SE 3 may add some new health coast, it is unlikely that the full suite of tools in Apple's best smartwatch will expect. Therefore, the Apple Watch SE 3 will probably skip if you want to capture the EKG function of Apple, sleep apnea, the blood oxygen (outside the USA) or the temperature.

Blood pressure

The 2025 Apple Watch heading should be blood pressure monitoring. Apple is reportedly preparing a hypertension. As with the monitoring of the sleep apnea, this will report warnings for abnormal or high measurements and not a certain or current score. This function is almost certainly limited to series 11 and Ultra 3 or maybe only to Ultra 3. Either way, it won't be on the Apple Watch SE 3. If it is important to you, this will not be the watch for you.

Plastic housing

The plastic housing was a change that was rumored for the Apple Watch SE 3 at the end of last year. Mark Gurman von Bloomberg had previously reported that Apple explored a cheaper plastic housing, which would be more colors and at the same time saved the total costs.

Personally, I see this as a double -edged sword. If you like the Premium feeling of the Apple Watch Line, I would say that moving into plastic is a reason to skip the device this year. Conversely, Apple may have major problems with the technology behind the scenes, and plastic could look back. If you were enthusiastic about this change, this may not be possible, so another potential reason to skip.
