Update: Resolution with violent crimes approved by the Columbia City Council

The Columbia City Council has approved a resolution that has committed to reducing violent crimes.

The two -sided resolution expresses support for guidelines that improve public security and reduce violent crimes. The solution also says that Columbia will continue to prioritize investments in training, equipment and personnel to ensure that public security services have the necessary resources in order to react effectively to public security needs in the community.

The city administrator De'carlon Seaawood recommended that the police from the Columbia police be necessary for the program by Missouri Blue Shield that is managed by the State Department of Public Safety (DPS). Cities with this name are entitled to apply for state grants with training and equipment for public security.

Jill Schloude, chief of police from Columbia, published crime statistics in March 2024. While the number of crimes against property and society went back from 2023 to 2024, the number of murders rose from seven in 2023 last year. According to crime statistics, the number of robberies in Colombia also rose from 44 in the previous year in 2023 to 52 in the previous year.
