Saginaw area sports highlights: Swan Valley ends Division 2 Regional Meet with record

Two Swan Valley teams drove for a race for almost two hours on Monday.

It was worth the trip.

The regional track meeting of Division 2 in Cadillac was discontinued on Friday due to lightning with just one event, the 1,600-meter relay. The coaches agreed to return on Monday to end the meeting.

Swan Valley did not win the team championships in both divisions, but the Vikings swept the 1,600 seasons on Monday, with the boys win in 3 minutes and 24.17 seconds. The girls' team set up a school record and qualified for division 2 State Meet and the New Balance National Meet in 3: 56.32.

Cal Delisle, Ryder Stypanovich, Owen Hare and Boston Steng-Erhouhingher won the relay victory for the Viking boys, which took third place in the overall ranking with 73.5 points. Petoskey was the first with 83 points and Alma was second with 81.

The Swan Valley Girls Time was the best in the state of Division 2 this season. The recording was set up by Grace Spear, Aubrey Hare, Mackenzie Powell and Sydney Kuhn.

Petoskey also won the girls' department with 118.5 points, followed by Swan Valley in fifth place with 61 and Freeland Seventh with 48.

baseball

Valley Lutheran 5-2, Nouvel 1-0: Trey Flood scored 12 and allowed three goals to achieve victory 1 in Valley Lutheran Sweep. Jack Holzhei Hei led the chargers with two goals and two RBIs, with Dylan Pugh, Tyler Belt and Axel Schuette add two hits. Ben Diener scored five in 6 1/3 Innerings to achieve victory 2, and Schuette ended the shutout to be relieved. Diener and Jacob Grimpo each run a run for Valley Lutheran.

Chesaning 15-2, new Lothrop 1-0: Chesaning ended the conference of the MID-Michigan activities without loss with the new Lorraine. At the Opener, Brady Sager threw a five-hitter-five-grave grille with eight strikes to improve to 8: 0. Adam Woodcock and Logan Vogelaar each had three goals for Chesaning, with Eli Keck adding two goals, four stolen bases and six RBIs. Woodcock threw the complete game shutout in game 2 and enabled five goals with three rashes to improve to 8: 0. Hudson followed Chesaning (26-6, 16-0) with two goals.

Hemlock 14-4, Michigan Lutheran Seminary 0-1: Hemlock Ace Chad Brown excluded 10 in game 1. Dawson Doan led the crime with three goals, while Landon Zastrow and DJ Lyscas added two goals and four RBIs. Gavin Schmidt followed with two goals and two RBIs. Noah Reif went twice to lead MLS. Schmidt won the victory 2 without a deserved run, with Blake Willman received the rescue. Mitchell Radosa, Zastrow and Schmidt each had two goals, whereby Radosa hit a Homer. Brown followed with two goals and two walks for Hemlock (22-6-1, 8-0). Brady Teske led MLS with two goals, while Silas Hill allowed a goal and hit three in three innings for the cardinals.

Heritage 6, Davison 4: Heritage ended the game of April 14, won the victory and improved to 14: 6. Trevor Selk in the Saginaw Valley League allowed five goals and struck seven for victory. Jack Thompson and Hudsen Hammond had a goal and RBI for the 14-12 Hawks.

Caro 2-7, Laker High 0-0: Caro swept Laker high with two back ends from Xander Grice and Landyn Stine, with the two of them enabled a total of nine goals in 14 innerings. At the Opener, Xander Grice allowed three goals and three walks, which achieved eight. He also led the crime with two goals. Stine and Max Grice each had two walks. Stine allowed 2 hits in game 2, and scored 12. Wyatt Waterman, Trentin Hessling and Xander Grice had two goals in game 2, with Waterman in three runs for Caro (18-13-1, 8-4).

Merrill 4-8, Breckenridge 1-10: Bryce Mechem threw a no-grille in game 1, took care of it and went two in six innings. Brendan Becker led the crime with two doubles and two RBIs. Ethan Mattson led the vandals in the extra-in-end loss in game 2 and ended with five goals and two RBIs. Becker and Collin Buckley added two goals and two RBIs for Merrill (16-11, 11-3).

Softball

Millington 12-10, Unionville-Sebewaing 2-5: Millington swept the defending champion of Division 4 State Champion and the No. 1 team USA, scored 22 runs in the Doubleheader and won a share in the Big Thumb White title. Lilly Damm had four goals, four runs and five RBIs in Doubleheader, while Kamryn Blackmer and Logan Matusik added three goals. Morgan Matusik threw a two-hitter victory in the game 1 and achieved six of five innings. In the second game, Ashlyn Bentoski scored four in four innings to achieve the victory of Millington, and Matusik scored three more in the last three innings for Millington (22-9, 11: 1).

Michigan Lutheran Seminary 3-1, Hemlock 1-6: Brooke Gustin had two goals to run Hemlock in the defeat of game 1, and Carley Noyes threw four shutout in -ending with five strikeouts. Noyes excluded six more and did not allow deserved runs in game 2, which the 100-strike mark on the shadow for the season. Lillian Martinez and Gustin led the Hemlock offensive with two goals each, with Gustin driving in two runs.

Reese 16-19, Vassar 1-2: Breeli Louis scored three in the opening win of three Inning and added two goals and two RBIs to the plate. Ashtyn Frost and Kiera Campbell led Reese's crime with three goals and four RBIs each. Kylie Soper added two hits and Jaidyn vanocht two RBIs. Soper won the four-in-end victory in game 2 and scored three. Louis had two goals, with Campbell drove in three runs. Peyton Will and Sydney Durussel added two RBIs each.

EVART 4-12, Bullock Creek 0-4: Bryanna Herron von Bullock Creek threw well in the defeat of Game 1 and allowed two goals and no deserved runs in three innings against the defending champion of the Division 3 State Champion. Delaney violet met a Homer for the Lancers in game 2.

Coleman 12-7, Beaverton 9-12: Klaira Sysak had four goals, including a Homer, and three RBIs to lead Coleman to the victory of Game 1. Sydney Bovee followed with three goals and five RBIs, while Isabelle Lewis and Aubree Ellison added two goals. Sysak and Bovee added two RBIs each in the loss of game 2, with Isabelle Lewis collecting three goals. Eliza Lewis and Elley Johnson added two goals each.

Girl football

Hemlock 8, heir 0: Izzy Krueger, Maycee Vanderwall and Khloe Rump each scored two goals to lead Hemlock to the Senior Night Shutout. Vivian Trumble and Kristyn Pratt each achieved their first varsity goal for the 8-7-1 huskies, while Taryn Pratt made two parades to earn their seventh closure of the season.

Young golf

MMAC tournament: Chesaning took first place at the Mid-Michigan Activity Conference tournament and beat Birch Run for the title. The Panthers took a 357 to take second place, led by the medalist Cole Beldyga. The Birch Run in the second year shot a 78 to finish first, while Mason Reis was 86 with an 85 and Garett Martinus.
