Ameyaw-Akumfi does not appear in court because of medical emergency

The former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, occurred on Tuesday, May 20, for reasons of the illness in the current process in relation to the controversial ACCRA Sky train project, which allegedly cost the state $ 2 million.

His legal representative, Duke Aaron Sasu, told the court that the absence of his client was due to a medical emergency.

According to Sasu, the former Kufuor administration was brought to the emergency room of the Medical Center (UGMC) of the University of Ghana (UGMC) in the early morning of Tuesday.

The specific nature of Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi's disease is still unclear.

However, his legal team has expressed hope of his complete recovery and willingness to put them in court in due course.

This incident follows an earlier statement that was offered on May 13 when the defendant of the co -accused of Prof. Akumfi, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, Solomon Asamoah, was taken.

On this occasion, Prof. Akumfi's lawyer informed the court that the academic and the statesman had recently undergone an operation at UGMC, which made him unable to appear in court.

Prof. Akumfi was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, which causes financial losses for the republic.
