Watch Live: Rubio testifies to the budget request from the Foreign Ministry and defend dramatic cuts

The Senate's Democrats are given the first opportunity to confront the Foreign Minister Marco Rubio publicly for dramatic reductions in foreign help and other important changes in US foreign policy on Tuesday.

Democrats of the Committee on Foreign Relations have asked the former Senator for months to answer their questions about the reduction of the US Agency for International Development, the clashes of President Donald Trump with traditional allies such as Canada and other drastic changes.

In her prepared remarks, the ranking democrat, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, argues that the Trump government “has shown six decades of foreign policy investments” and China opened.

“Mr. Secretary, I ask you to face the extremists of the administration,” says Shaheen.

Rubios testimony reflects the line that President Joe Biden used when he took office and ended many of the first “America First” guidelines from Trump.

Rubios' prepared remarks claim four months of foreign policy successes, although these efforts are not conclusive: the resumption of nuclear discussions with Iran, the efforts, Russia and the Ukraine in peace discussions and efforts to end the war in the Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

And he will praise agreements with El Salvador and other Latin American countries to accept deported by migrants and to say that “safe limits, safe communities and no tolerance to criminal cartels are the guiding principles of our foreign policy”.

Rubio also says in his prepared comments on the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate that the cuts serve the foreign policy interests of America by eliminating waste, double programs and unnecessary staff. He claims that the cuts actually strengthen the US position on the global stage by focusing on core priorities.

“Every office and office will have a clear mission. The department will speak to a voice that is led by our legal mandates and national interests – not of fading or academic theories,” Rubio says.

The proposed budget of 28.5 billion US dollars reflects the recession of around 20 billion US dollars in what Rubio describes as “ideologically driven programs” with a focus on diversity, equality, inclusion and climate change.
