Unpatious students talk about a video of alleged Islamophobia

Lincoln, Neb. (Klkn)-Muslim Students of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln speak out according to a possible case of Islamophobia.

Lincoln for Palestine published a video on Saturday in which a man is seen and heard, which makes derogatory comments.

According to the students, the comments were made after an event at UNG, in which a nurse in Nebraska shared his experience in Gaza.

“That happened and it's wrong and it has to be addressed,” said a student.

The comments in the video include: “You humans are evil; they are demonic beyond” and criticisms of the Prophet Muhammad.

Channel 8 sat down with three of the Muslim students who recorded the video.

A student said she was frustrated and emotionally.

“As a Muslim who wears a hijab, I go very much on the environment on the campus,” she said. “I have to be very careful who is near me. I have to take note of what happens around me.”

The students demand measures.

“The university has to hold him accountable,” said another student. “If the university does not hold it into account, this behavior only makes it acceptable. If you do not publicly recognize it and do not publicly condemn it, this is a sign of Muslim, Palestinian and non -Christian students that you are not welcome at UNG.”

In a statement published on Saturday, the university said:

“The University of Nebraska-Linkn is obliged to ensure that our community remains a safe and supportive environment in which all students, regardless of breed, religion, ethnicity or other identities, in an environment that learns and thrives freely from discrimination and harassment.
