MBTA pays 5 million US dollars to pay the lawsuit

The MBTA has reached a settlement of 5 million US dollars with the estate of a man who was killed more than three years ago after his arm was caught in the door of a red line and he was died.

Robinson Lalin, 39, a father of two father living in Boston, was killed in the early morning of April 10, 2022, when a door of the red line in his arm was closed on his arm and dragged him into the Broadway Station Tunnel. Train drivers tried to help him free his arm after the train had to withdraw from the train station, but were unsuccessful and Lalin was beaten to death by the walls of the tunnel.

His family then sued the MBTA for his death and, according to court files, documented that the transit agency and the lawyers of the estate have occurred to an agreement of several million dollars that end the legal dispute.

“The parties have agreed to handle the claims of the estate of 5,000,000 US dollars on the completeness of the personal injury and illegal deaths against the MBTA,” says the comparison agreement.

An investigation carried out by the National Transportation Safety Board after Lalin's death showed that the sensor in the door was disturbed in the door to recognize a blocking object. His estate later brought a claim against the MBTA for “conscious pain, suffering and false death”.

The agreement according to court documents “constitutes a compromise by the parties to recognize the controversial claims and evidence as well as the risks, resources and expenses associated with the procedure for negotiation.”
