Ukraine opens the examination for scandal with French -trained brigade

The military of Ukraine informed AFP on Tuesday that it opened a new investigation by the “Anne of Kyiv” scandal brigade trained in France, which was trained according to the media allegations of financial misconduct in which several commanders were involved.

The unit – officially Ukraine 155^TH Mechanized brigade – should be a flagship fight for the Ukrainian army, which was announced by the French President Emmanuel Macron As a symbol of close cooperation between Kyiv and Paris, News.az reports, quotes France24.

However, it was plagued by scandals, including reports on lack of equipment, low morality and soldiers who act in a lot of tune while training in France.

A spokesman for the Ukraine land forces confirmed on Tuesday that a new investigation had been initiated into the unit, but was leaning further.

The Ukrainska Pravda Media Outlet recently claimed that the Brigade commander Colonel Taras Maksimov may have been involved in “fictional battle payments and blackmails”.

It also said that the brigade saw over 1,200 cases of soldiers who were absent without vacation.

“After the publication of the article in Ukrainska Pravda, I ordered an additional official inspection of the facts unveiled by journalists,” Land Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapaty was cited in the publication.

A spokesman for the unit confirmed AFP that an “inspection was ordered”.

Macron announced the creation of the Anne of Kyiv Brigade – named after a medieval Kyiv princess who married the French royal family – the commemoration of the last year of 80^TH Anniversary of Normandy landings.

Paris described it as a “unique” initiative and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wanted to form a dozen other NATO-trained and equipped units.

The Ukrainian military has been with corruption scandals – from the procurement of weapons to falsification of design certificate certificates – since Russia entered February 2022.
