Memphis Grizzlies Center Zach Edey deserves all-rookie awards

Zach Edey is already expanding his collection of College basketball prices, but his latest award comes from the highest level. The former Purdue superstar was added to the NBA all-rookie team after an outstanding first season with the Memphis Grizzlies.

On Tuesday, the NBA published its selection of the first and second team for the NBA All-Rokie team 2024-25. EDEY was a selection of the first team together with the current teammate from Grizzlies Jaylen Wells.

Edey ended his rookie season in Memphis with an average of 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. The grizzlies earned the No. 8 seeds in the NBA playoffs 2025, but were swept in the first round by the top seed in Oklahoma City Thunder.

At Purdue, Edey was a two -time international of the year and led the boiler makers on two titles from Big Ten and a trip to the national championship game in 2024, the first visit to the program since 1969.

Despite his college success, some tithe to the NBA level tithe. The grizzlies chose the 7-foot 4 center with the ninth election in the NBA design of 2024 and fit in Memphis.

“I think that could mean a little more,” said Edey in his exit interview when he was asked how he would do the NBA all-rookie team.

“There are a lot of people who have received a lot of money who said many things about me, as I would be in the NBA, and the type of future I would have. This is obviously not the end of the trip, it is just a step to show them that some people have considered some things.”

As much as he appreciated the individual awards from the NBA, it is not Edey's main focus into the low season. While he is preparing for his second season on a professional level, the former Purdue wants to emphasize that his team wins even higher in the 2025-26 season.

“I have to work on many things this low season: my side speed, my explosiveness, my sportiness, to guard the scope,” said Edey. “I promise you, I'll put my head down and work hard.”
