Legislators in Texas propose laws to reject the deposit for suspects of violent crime

Legislators in Texas are about to adopt a comprehensive deposit reform because new laws could be accused of violating violence in prison without bail.

The voters in Texas would have to say “yes” in order to change our current state constitution, which almost everyone who is arrested is to get the right to get out of prison for deposit.

The deposit reform will have a major impact on the criminal justice system in Texas.

What we know:

If the voters approved the constitutional changes in November, the judges would have to refuse deposit for rape, murder and human trafficking.

If a judge sets a deposit for someone who is accused of this type of violent crime, the judge would have to declare his decision in writing.

The deposit adopted by the legislators will ask voters to change the state constitution, according to which the judges refuse the deposit for a group of violent tales such as murder attacks with a fatal weapon and other serious violent crimes and keep the accused in prison.

Police chief on the deposit reform

The boss Christopher Cook from the White Siedlung Police spoke to Shaun Rabb from Fox 4 about the reform of the deposit especially for violent criminal offenders.

“You have someone who uses a firearm in the inspection of a crime or commits a really serious crime, and in reality, as soon as you deal with the bond while you are waiting for the process, you will be insulted again. Not in every case, but in many cases we see at this point, and this is not only for the community, but for our police officers and our detectives.”

Cook also gave examples of cases that show why Texas needs a deposit reform.

“As early as August 2024, a very violent crime in a local hotel. [The suspect] Shoots a man who survives in the end. Kille almost a toddler. By the way, it is on video, “said Cook.

“He committed a violent crime. He shot someone.

Appealing deposit decisions

Another legislative law would restrict who is able to get out of prison for personal recognition bonds, cashless bonds, and enable the prosecutors to make decisions by judge against deposit.

To keep a defendant in prison for up to twenty more days, while the appeal procedure is heard.

“We recognize that the deposit is a guarantee that we will put it in court. We understand that. We want people if they are in bond not to insult again. We do not want any additional crimes,” said Cook.

Grab deeper:

Other proposed laws that would also require a constitutional change would expressly refuse the deposit without legal status, which are accused of a large number of serious crimes.

Some Democrats have pushed back and said that it would violate immigrants' proper process rights.

This legislation will be voted again tomorrow.
