NBA Super Agent David Falk talks about the representation of Michael Jordan, offers advice for sports managers

On Tuesday, a few Air Jordan 11s, fame founder and former NBA superagent David Falk entered the stage at the 4SE conference of SBJ in Manhattan in order not to reduce question-and-response sessions, the NBA legends such as Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson and Patrick Ew-Ewing legends in the areas of the sports industry represented.

Rob Schaefer from SBJ shares the highlights from Falk's discussion with SBJS ABE Madkour.

Would Falk be an agent today? “Absolutely not”

Falk estimated that almost three quarters of NBA contracts are “not negotiated”.

He also scolded the current “NBA Empowerment -Sära”, from which he claims that they are not necessarily new because the influence that the athlete has -see: his most famous customer -but because of the way the players practice.

“I did a lot of business, but I would never make it public,” said Falk. “It humiliates the game with which they all make money.”

“Feel the future”

Falk's advice to prospective executives in the sports industry in the room has always been to always examine the future instead of checking the past and cited growth areas such as gambling and streaming.

“The really amazing and successful people like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, they feel the future, they see the future,” said Falk. “I would say that for someone who wants to be really successful in the sports industry, you will find out where it will take in five years. What needs will you have?”

But he would not recommend possession of it unless you can afford a majority.

“I'm so clear,” said Falk.

Jordan represented

Falk remembered the wealthy early days of the Jordan brand, but also remembered the difficult times that the Bulls star represented, like navigating the scandal after Jordan had paid a notorious fraudster after the gambling at the golf course in the early 1990s. Falk said that he thinks Jordan would be released after he had confronted him with lunch about the public apology for the incident.

But as Falk said, “[Jordan] apologized to his parents. He apologized to the owner. He apologized to his teammates – and it was over, “said Falk. But if you want a relationship with someone like this or Mike Krzyzewski or John Thompson, you always need to know if you ask you for your advice that you will never flinch, you will not give you to BS and you will tell you exactly what you think.”

Prediction of Jordan's role in NBC

Falk it was clear that he had not spoken to his former customer since it was announced that Jordan will be released as a “contributor” on the NBA reporting from NBC Sports. But he asked if he believed that MJ was good in the air, he offered a blunt prediction.

“I will be surprised when he is [Jordan] Three times, “said Falk.” It's just personal. I didn't ask him. “

Applause of the Zion debate

For nobody in the surprise of the room, Falk quickly replied Jordan when he was asked who his goat was. Asked about No. 2, he said either Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Kobe Bryant.

Is LeBron James in his top 10?

“Probably,” said Falk, before delivering the quote of the day: “I really like LeBron,” he said. “But I think if Jordan, if he wanted to be in which team and won two other superstars, he would have won 15 championships.”
