College student killed with U-Haul in the accident, 8 others injured

Newark, del. (Kyw) a student in Delaware was killed in a car accident with a U-Haul near the university campus on Tuesday. Eight other people were also injured.

Victoria Dellanno was witness to the crash near the University of Delaware campus.

“It was the scaryest moment of my life,” she said. “I don't know what was going on.”

Dellanno said she was playing on Tuesday evening on Tuesday evening behind Main Street in Newark when a U-Haul-van rolled and hit six people.

“We heard the car accelerated and then we heard the goals and then we heard that they hit the cars,” she said.

Dellanno said she received a warning on her phone from the University of Delaware after the crash.

“We found that these screams had no people who had fun. They were scared,” she said.

Neuling Matthew McKay said this accident was not the first in which a student was involved. The 18-year-old Noelia Gomez was killed last autumn on the first day of the class.

“The fact that this has now happened twice has been bothering since I came on campus,” said McKay.

Gomez was hit by a motorcycle who tried on campus.

“Something has to change, it somehow makes me angry,” he said. “It all makes it angry.”

Nico Hart is one of many students who are now rethinking their security.

“This is something you see everywhere, but it's a little more unique for Newark, which is not a good thing. Something urgently needs to be repaired,” he said.

Campus students now think of those affected by the accidents and recognize how close these tragedies came.

“I went. It is scary. I could have been,” said student Layla Mirkin. “I was literally along the street and went up and down the main street all day.”
