“We have the ability to bring the emergency room to the patient,” said Bock. “If you are sick, are injured or cannot come to the hospital, we can accept this care directly to you.”

She added that the hospital also took over remote car transports.

“We will transport patients in our facility or higher, a lower level of care,” she said. “One of our goals is to ensure quick and effective care.”

Megan Thorman, an EMT and nurse at Chi Health Good Samaritan, said the Ems workers must be ready for everything – at all times.

“It is the possibility to help people with their worse condition,” said Thorman. “Hopefully I can do your day a little better and give you the care you deserve, the care that I want my family.”

Joan Kreutzer, also an EMT and nurse, said she thrives in the high intensity of the job.

“I viewed myself as an adrenaline -Junky,” said Kreutzer. “Somehow I like to get directly into the dirt – see what's going on. What we can do for the patients and bring them to where they have to go.”

Both Thorman and Kreutzer emphasized the importance of teamwork and strong communication in this area.

The flight nurse Sarah Vanhorn said that the Aircare team usually reacts to patients who need a higher level of critical care.

“We usually fly after removal or sharpness of the patient,” said Vanhorn. “If you have to get a quick place, we will be called.”

Vanhorn explained that the Aircare Ambulance Service covers all Nebraska and often helps patients near the Colorado border, Nordkansas and parts of South Dakota.

“We supported about 360 patients in 2024,” she said. “We have an average of about 35 per month, just somehow depends on the month. We have a busy season, just like everyone else – just like EMS.”

Sarah, Megan and Joan everyone emphasized how important it is to support the local volunteers who often call around the clock and possibly miss the holidays to serve their communities.

In order to honor and support these experts, Chi Health Good Samaritan organizes a fundraiser for golf tournaments on May 30th.
