The Google News come again and again: When we enter Google I/O 2025 on the second day, Google has included “new in-car app experiences” for Android Auto, which for the first time contain video machines and browser apps.

According to the official blog post, the support for video and browser is “soon” for Android Auto. As with games on Android Auto, these apps only work if your vehicle is parked to prevent you from distracting them on the street.

For videoists, the introduction initially applies to Android 16 devices and “selecting compatible cars”. Therefore, this depends on the hardware that you use and the dashboard with which you join.

Google mentions that it is able to listen to the audio from videos while driving, but this is initially on the “early access” phase, and there is more work for Google, car manufacturer and app developer.

According to Google, the category of weather app has completed the beta in the same blog post. This means that you do not need any specific approval to run on Android Auto. Find further weather apps that will appear shortly.

The development is even further ahead for cars with already integrated Google dashboards (which is currently not many): the category of video app is now open for submissions, while the browser category is currently in the beta.

The blog post also mentions that the Gemini assistant will come to Android Auto, which we had already seen in the “coming months”. Finally, it will take on all voice control tasks on the dashboard.

It would be a welcome upgrade to sit a video with the passengers on Android car and watch a video. For me, surfing on a car dashboard is less appealing, but it is easy to see that the platform is updated and expanded over time.
