New art exhibition in the Denver Botanic Gardens shows the beauty of fiber art

The Denver Botanic Gardensis with a new exhibition, contemporary fiber: botanicals, which has made art with a variety of fiber techniques and tells the story of an old art form and the materials that they produce.

The deputy curator of the exhibits in the Gardens Moira Casey describes fiber or textile art as one of the earliest forms of artistic expression.

“They combine techniques,” said Casey. “You use different, unexpected material, and that really opens this creative area of ​​the possibility.”

Art is not only aesthetically appealing. It also tells a story and sensitized to ecological questions. One of the works presented includes a piece of the artist Stefania Urist, which is made from chicken wire and Phragmite, an invasive plant that violates ecosystems in the USA, especially on the east coast and along the large lakes.

“It is an environmental intervention and statement about the story behind what is happening, but it is just a way to create a nice material for an incredible work of art sustainably,” said Casey. “It is a way to draw attention to this story and at the same time create something nice.

Contemporary fiber: Botanicals will be exhibited in the Freyer-Neuman Center until September 28th. The exhibition is contained with general approval in the Denver Botanic Gardens.
