The former policeman receives a 5-year custody penalty when crashed

Steven W. Foulk

A former police officer in Chicago was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday because he had caused an accident of 2021 in which an antioch man was killed while he was drunk.

Steven Foulk, 71, from Iceland Lake, owed to drive in February to drive difficult under the influence of alcohol/death.

The prosecutors said that the fatal crash took place on July 15, 2021 at around 2 a.m. after Foulk spent golf and drink last day and then drinks more drinks in a bar in Johnsburg.

According to the authorities, Foulk drove a Toyota Camry in South in the Chapel Hill Road in Mchenry when he met the back of a motorcycle that was stopped at the traffic light on route 120.

The collision killed the motorcyclist Kenneth Jackson, 37, from Antioch.

Tests showed that foulk's blood alcohol mirror 059 fast was twice as high as the statutory border hours after the crash, the authorities said. The police also said that Foulk drove about 15 miles per hour above the speed limit and only slowed down 0.4 seconds before the impact.

Jackson's mother, Karen Betancourt, read an explanation under the court and said when she arrived in the hospital, her son was “destroyed from head to toe”. He suffered several cuts and fractures, his spine was separated and he was on life support.

“I could hardly see my own son,” she said.

“(He) had taken his life from him … unfinished dreams, a to-do list in his phone. I feel my son in my heart and hear his voice. He says:” I want to be alive, I want my life back. I have so much to do, “she added.

Family members said they miss Jackson's laugh and sense of humor and the way he checked in and took care of them.

“Our hearts are broken,” said Betancourt. “The worst part of Kenny's death was that it was completely avoidable. One person decided not to get and drive a journey. (Foulk) caused my son's massacre and destroyed my family.”

The 37 -year -old Kenneth Jackson from Antioch was killed by a drunk driver, while his motorcycle stopped at a traffic light in Mchenry on July 13, 2021.

Foulk's lawyer, Matthew Haiduk, argued for the probation and referred to the multiple health problems of the former police officer, including cancer and diabetes as well as problems with memory and balance.

When the 5-year-old prison sentence, Mark Gerhardt, later handed over, he said that such health problems for a 71-year-old man are not “extraordinary”.

In his declaration before the court, Foulk apologized and said that he had often wanted Jackson's family to say that he was sorry, but the lawyers advised him not to do so.

“A day does not pass that I don't think about what happened,” he said. “Words cannot explain how sorry I am. If I could go back and change what happened, I would do it. I hope you believe me if I tell me that I'm sorry.”
