Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to take to the streets nationwide on Thursday in May Day that oppose the Trump administration.

The day in May, which is celebrated by workers around the world as an International Labor Day, takes place every year on May 1st. This year, activists in the United States want to build on the dynamics of the youngest widespread basic protests against the guidelines carried out by the Trump administration.

Anti-trump demonstrators have expressed a number of concerns about the recent government measures, including the elimination of thousands of federal jobs, immigration attacks and the participation of billionaire Elon Musk in reducing the US government.

A protest against the “war against working people” of the Trump government

On May day, demonstrators improved their message to decipher the attacks on the working class and immigrants. The organizers for the efforts, which are described as strong, say that the administration and its billionaire allies represent a threat to labor rights, public services and the security of immigrants regardless of their legal status. The organizers have given their opposition to violent forms of protest.

“This is a war against working people,” said organizers on the website for strong events in May.

“They remove our schools, privatize public services, attack unions and aim at immigrant families with fear and violence,” they added. “We are driving back our power of company elites and will not be intimidated by Trump, Musk or her billionaire drivers. They have ruled too long.”

The White House did not react immediately to the NPR request for a comment.

The United States does not officially observe the working holidays because historians say that it is a permanent resistance to the unity of the working class. Despite this resistance, America's working class has found paths to commemorate May since the 19th century.

The tradition started with a work strike.

Why Americans protest on May 1st

Before the 8-hour working day became standard, the organization, now known as the American Federation of Labor, planned a nationwide strike for May 1, 1886 to request an 8-hour working day, as many workers made twice as long changes.

The chicago strike, known as Haymarket Affair, became violent when the police collided with civilians and exploded a bomb. Although the intended goal of the bomb was unclear, four men who were connected to the protests were also played with the Pullman Railroad Streik in the establishment of the May 1894 that the Pullman Palace Car Company initiated a widespread work, which President Grover Cleveland prompted to send federal troops to Chicago to break.

This provided the stage for the long history of the co -opt animal in May.

Inspired by the Chicago workers, the international socialist movement gained the Marxist literature that activists spread. In order to solve May on the day of work movements, US presidents tried to redefine its importance. President Dwight D. Eisenhower made May 1st as a “Jurisag” – to recognize how the rule of law protects civil freedom, and the day of the laboratory day was postponed in September.

During his first term, Trump repeated his predecessors by declaring “Loyalty Day” on May 1st, a time to celebrate the loyalty of the country towards individual freedoms. In the past May days during Trump's presidency, similar protests and boycotts were recorded by immigrants and workers who scolded the border wall plans of the Republicans and the efforts of the mass shifts.

However, the protests in the United States in 2006, which were triggered by a legislation to increase the penalties for illegal immigration, could serve as a better comparison. At this March protests, around 2 million demonstrators gathered in 140 cities and 39 states.

What shows on Thursday on Thursday in May -Day in May is the extent of the movement, said Joseph McCartin, professor of work history at Georgetown University.

According to organizers who are planned for more than 1,000 events in over 1,000 cities in over 1,000 cities, the nationwide protests of the most widespread May Day are widespread worldwide.

“These will be protests that cause a broader selection of people and a wider selection of places, and I think that will be historical for this reason,” he said.
