Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel has killed Mohammed Sinwar, the difficult to grasp de facto leader in Gaza.

“We removed tens of thousands of terrorists,” said Netanyahu at a press conference on Wednesday evening. “We have removed the leaders of the murderers of Deif, Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar and most likely Mohammad Sinwar.”

Israel was on Sinwar last week in a massive strike against the European Hospital in Khan Younis. The attack killed 28 Palestinians and injured more than 50 more, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said after the strike.

If the death of Sinwar is confirmed, it would be the latest in a series of attacks that have given the top brass of the group a heavy blow, but do not yet have to get power under control.

Sinwar is the brother of the former leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by the Israeli military in southern Gaza in October.
