Lake Effect Community Arts 'Maked Up' Show highlights local artists

Manistique, me. (WZMQ) – A manistique gallery shows some of the art that is made here on the upper peninsula.

The Lake Effect Community Arts Center asked artists who live within 100 miles of Manistique to submit pieces for his new make -up show. At an entry fee of 10 US dollars, artists who range from painters and photographers to sculptors and woodworkers were able to issue everything they created.

“We are very happy to have all these people who have submitted – more than we expected!” Said Lake Effect Community Arts board member Mandy Fierens. “We have so many talented people from our area and I love that we have such a change here.”

Visitors can vote for their favorite. The artist who receives the most votes will win the Peoples Choice Award worth $ 100.

According to Fierens, the idea behind make -up was to give local artists from all areas of life the opportunity to share their work.

“We wanted to make this community-friendly, in which everyone can take part because we appreciate art in all forms,” she said. “It doesn't have to be her chic, HOITY TOY person. It could be someone off the street, a student. We wanted it to be accessible to someone who wanted to see their art. I mean how special is that?”

Make -up will open on Thursday, May 22nd, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with public reception. The show runs until June 7th.

Visit the Lake Effect Community Arts Center in the 244 South Cedar Street to personally see the Make -up Art Exhibition. To learn more about these and upcoming events, follow Lake Effect Community Arts on Facebook.
