The right -handed man of Pittsburgh Pirates, Jared Jones, will undergo an elbow operation and miss the rest of the 2025 season, the club said on Wednesday. The operation is intended to repair its Ulnar collateral band or the band associated with Tommy John Operation. He is expected to be missed for 10 to 12 months, which indicates that he can only return to pirate rotation after the opening day 2026.

“At the end of last week, when he threw 100 feet, the arm did not feel good … Then we made the decision,” said Senior Director of the club's sports medicine, Todd Tomczyk, to reporters on Wednesday.

Jones, who did not appear this season, experienced his arm problem in spring. In March, the pirates expressed optimism that Jones would avoid surgery. At that time, the diagnosis was a tense UCL that left the tape in a stable state. Jones was then prescribed a treatment plan that hadn't thrown it for six weeks. Unfortunately, it does not seem that Jones' elbow could heal to the extent to which the doctors wanted it and remained without alternative.

The 23 -year -old Jones was one of the outstanding rookie pitchers last season. In 22 starts he collected a 4.14 ERA (101 ERA+) and a ratio of 3.38 strikeout to walk. His contributions were estimated at 1.7 victories of the exchange, according to the calculations that were housed in baseball reference.

The pirates have a terrible start to the season and organize a 16: 33 record that leaves them in the last place in the National League Central. Pittsburgh recently released Manager Derek Shelton and installed the former Utility player from Big-League, Don Kelly, as an interim skipper.

The pirates will complete a series with three games at home against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon.
