Prominent Nigerian icon Peter Obi visits SAC State, emphasizes growing international partnerships

Peter Obi, whose campaign for the Nigerian President lit a mighty political movement under the direction of hundreds of thousands of young people in 2023, praised great praise for the innovative student programs of the state of Sacramento during a recent visit to the campus.

SAC State honored Obi on April 26 with the Peace Leadership Award 2025 from the Center for African Peace and Conflict Solution (CAPCR) of the University. Obi received the award for his influence on peaceful electoral policy and significant efforts to promote the well -being of communities in need of protection.

The President of the SAC State, Luke Wood, First Lady Idara Wood, and CCCCR director Ernest Uwazie, Professor of Criminal Justice, visited Nigeria last year and spread the word about the groundbreaking programs of the university, including Black Honors College, and his wish to bring more international students on campus.

Obi's visit emerged from this trip.

“We were incredibly honored to house Peter Obi, who inspired millions of young people in Nigeria and elsewhere,” said Wood. “His visit to Sacramento State is proof of the efforts of our university to ensure that our students and the campus community can include the most influential managers in our world. Martin Luther King Jr., Jimi Hendrix, Maya SOETORO-NG, Maya Angelou, and now we can proud to say honest Peter Obi.”

During his appearance on campus, Obi discussed his struggle for the end of political corruption, improving the economy and increasing education in his home country and beyond. He emphasized that the leadership inspires the hope of young people and that the new generation of peace -driven young leaders had to cultivate.

Obi also praised the efforts of the SAC State to raise sub -represented students, and quoted the University of the University of Previous People and his Guardian Scholar program for former nurses.

The State of Sacramento State's first Black Honors College was launched in August 2024 to offer all students who are interested in black history, culture and contributions, an improved, shared experience. It has special course work, internships, mentors, distinctive research opportunities, programs for creative arts, living and learning initiatives and learning initiatives for living and learning and scholarships.

Obi visited Black Honors College during his visit and carefully took the time to learn more about her travels to Sacramento State and hopes to improve the world.

OBI is a successful businessman and former governor of the State of Anambra in Nigeria. In 2023 he ran against the President of Nigeria against candidates from the country's two major parties. His campaign triggered a movement of young supporters, which are known as “Obsache” and continue to include his ideology of cleverness and accountability.

The Center for African peace and conflict resolution was established in 1996 to provide conflict resolution and reconciliation services for agencies, governments, institutions, companies, civil society and community organizations and other groups through training, education, research and intervention. It also sponsors the annual Africa & Diaspora International Conference, which includes the Peace Awards.

His visit to the state of Sacramento is proof of the efforts of our university to ensure that our students and the campus community can include the most influential loaders in our world.” – Sacramento State President Luke Wood

Uwazie said Obi's visit to the campus matched the university initiatives.

“It creates a golden opportunity for new and expanded joint educational partnerships and the recruitment of international students,” said Uwazie. “As an advocate of the authorization through education and youth development, Mr. Obi is the great promise and the future of a positive, progressive leadership in Nigeria. His message of good government and compassion for members of society is beyond the borders.”

Nicole Fox, a CAPCR board member, said: “It is a real honor to be part of a university that appreciates and supports to bring remarkable peace leaders on our campus. At a time when the world is exposed to so many conflicts and violence, we need voices like Peter Obi – leaders who stand for justice and peace.”

Sac State First Lady Idara-Wood was reflected positively about Obi's visit and said: “He is an icon because he has changed systems, but he also changed hearts. He has shown that education is a strong instrument for promoting independence, peace and strengthening the community.”
