Patriot owner Robert Kraft “deeply sad” by the death of Jim Irsay

Robert Kraft, owner of New England Patriots, published an explanation after the Colts announced that Jim Irsay died on Wednesday afternoon.

I am deeply sad about learning from Jim Irsay. Jim was a passionate Colts fan, whose love for football only corresponded to his love for music. He brought a unique spirit and energy into the room and had an unmistakable presence.

Jim's boldness defined his legacy not only as the administrator of the Colts, but as someone who never stopped not being apologizing himself. His contributions to our league and his sympathy for his community will leave a permanent brand. In the name of my family and the entire New England Patriots organization, I expand the Irsay family, the Colts organization and everyone who knew and loved him, our deepest condolences.

Irsay, who has had the Colts since 1997, died peacefully in her sleep, according to the team.

During his tenure as owner, Irsay helped to lead Colts into the playoffs 16 times, two AFC championships and a great bowl.

Details about his death are unknown.

Irsay was 65.
