Truck driver dies after crash in Death Valley | Local Nevada

A semi-drink driver was killed in Death Valley National Park after falling into a building at the Emigrant Junction, the National Park Service said in a press release.

The truck collided with the historic emigrant Ranger station after experiencing a brake defect on Tuesday at 2.12 p.m. on the California State Route 190 between Heropipe Wells and ToWne Pass.

The street has “long, steep notes”, which, according to the Park Service, can lead to overheating in heavy vehicles. In 2024, six commercial trucks and a leisure vehicle with fifth wheels on the 190 Route near Town Pass started fire.

The historical station was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and has not been used for several decades, but is maintained for its history. The truck hit the porch of the building, “destroyed two stone columns, damage the roof and broke the windows,” said the park service.

The truck also buried a dry form of sodium sulfate, which was reduced to the road in Searles Valley southwest of Death Valley and diesel fuel, which required a overnight -hazmat cleaning.

The route 190 was opened again on Wednesday at 11 a.m. after it was blocked for 22 hours.
