4 million SSNs may have been entered in violation of employee performance companies. Are you one of them?

Verisource Services, a company company for employee services, has announced that a data injury in February 2024 affected the personal identifiable data of 4 million people.

In a statement sent to the Maine General Prosecutor's Office, the company in Houston, Texas, said that a combination of the following employee data may have been impaired: name, address, date of birth, gender and social security numbers.

For the first time, Verisource noticed the violation on February 28 of last year, which led to a comprehensive review of his systems that were completed at the beginning of this month. Verisource said in September last September that the violation affected 112,000 people, but has now significantly revised the number.

Verisource is in the process of notifying affected people who are currently working for their customers or were previously employed.

“As soon as VSI discovered the incident, we took the steps to secure our environment and used a leading, independent cyber security company to carry out a forensic investigation,” said the company in a letter to the persons concerned this month.

Verisource said it carried out several measures to improve its security and reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The company provides identity theft protection and credit surveillance services for 12 months for affected people via IDX. You can register for reporting by calling 1-877-520-4007 or visiting this page and providing the registration code at the top of your data injury.

Verisource did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.

What should I do if I am affected by the Verisource violation?

If your data is impaired in the event of a cyber security violation, it can be sold to the highest bidder in the dark network. Criminals can then use this information to make it with phishing attacks, fraud and even try to steal their identity.

Freeze your credit

Since the social security numbers in the Verisource violations were leaked, it could make sense to freeze their credit. This prevents creditors from accessing their credit views, which prevents cybercriminals from opening the credit lines in their name.
