Tottenham player went without medals after the final victory of the Europa League

Associated Press

Bilbao, Spain (AP)-the striker son Heung-Min was among the Tottenham players who went without winning medals during the award ceremony for the Europa League final on Wednesday.

Uefa President Aleksander Čeferer seemed to be surprised when the medals had expired before all Tottenham players received them after the team's 1-0 win against Manchester United.

Uefa later said that the problem had occurred because Tottenham sent too many people to maintain their medals during the ceremony.

Soccer's European Leadership committee said that the clubs had been informed that only 30 medals would be presented on stage for each club. After the ceremony for distribution to players and employees, 20 further medals were handed over to the club.

Son, who raised the trophy in front of his teammates in the award ceremony, was one of the few players who did not receive his medal in the field. It was Tottenham's first big title since 2008.
