Family of the recology worker said that death could have been “prevented”

The family of the Recology worker, who died at the workplace on Friday morning on Wednesday, named death as “avoidable” and asked for the company's answers, which they said by the investigation.

Alfredo Romero, 61, from Fremont, died on Friday in the Recology facility in the Avenue tunnel in San Francisco.

The family is in “complete shock”

In an interview that was run in the funeral company on Wednesday, in which the family takes precautions, his three adult children, Michelle, Danielle and Joseph, KTVU said that they were “not prepared for his death” and demand transparency.

Michelle said the news was shocked on Friday when she received a call from Recology.

“They asked if I was related to someone else like a similar name, but it wasn't my father's name. They false the name,” she said. “You were like 'Albert Romero?' And I said, 'Do you mean Alfredo?' “

When she finally understood that her father had an accident, she said: “My heart fell … What kind of accident could it have happened, which would end in death?”

Alfredo was an experienced and qualified mechanic. So what happened?

Michelle said her father, who came from a number of garbage workers and spent four decades in the industry, was an experienced mechanic and a mentor for his colleagues.

“What was really difficult was that the company didn't tell us anything,” she said.

Michelle and her siblings said that her father's colleagues who were present during the incident were the only ones who gave an insight.

“It was not a health. It was a traffic accident. He was one of the new trucks in the shop on the back of the funnel. He tried to work on it when it happened. It feels like something that should have been prevented,” said Michelle.

She said it was a typical change when her father did his normal work. “That should have been a normal day. He should have come home from work.”

Michelle added that the family “would hear complaints from my father and the boys in general [Recology] Cutting corners for expenses “if the workers need new devices”, I don't really know what is relevant in this special case, “she said.

Michelle said KTVU that her family could not call up Alfredo's things from the website because the examination continues.

With tears in his eyes, Michelle remembered how proud he was to do the work and how he loved his employees. She said that the men who worked with her father supported them in this difficult time.

Family man leaves three children and four grandchildren

She said Alfredo was a family man who loved spending time with his four grandchildren.

As a committed father, the family described him as a hardworking man who worked overtime and during the holidays to offer his family a comfortable life.

The union in which he was a member.

The other side:

In a statement from Recology, a spokesman wrote: “We are broken with the Romero family. We understand and we share their shock. However, the incident is still being examined and we work with the right authorities to determine exactly what happened.”

The family said they hope that security in recology will be prioritized so that the tragedy does not agree again.

Cal Osha and the public prosecutor's office in San Mateo examine death and cannot publish additional information until the examination has been completed.

Cal Osha has six months to complete his investigations and issue all quotes.

There is a gofundme for the family funeral costs.
