2 Israeli embassy workers who were killed in obvious anti -Semitic attacks outside the Jewish Museum of the DC

The attacker supposedly screamed “Free Palestine” after shot the two Israeli embassy workers who were soon a committed couple who took part in a Jewish cultural event in DC

Two employees of the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, were fatally shot on Wednesday evening before the Jewish Capital Museum after participating in an event that was held by the American Jewish Committee (AJC). The shootout only occurred from the White House and the US Capitol and is examined as a possible hate crime and act of terrorism.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, allegedly approached a group of four people at 9 p.m., pulled a pistol and opened the fire, killed a man and a woman. According to Israeli ambassador in the US Yechiel Head, the victims were a young couple who had engaged.

Rodriguez, who went up and down in front of the shootout in front of the shooting, she allegedly entered the building after shooting the couple and was arrested by security. According to Pamela Smith, police chief of DC, he sang “free, free Palestine” while he was taken into custody. No former secret service warned of a threat, and Rodriguez was not previously known to prosecution.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and US lawyer from Washington Jeanine Pirro visited the scene shortly after the shootout. Bondi swore to pursue the attacker “in full of the law”.

The victims took part in a cocktail event for young diplomats and Jewish professionals sponsored by the AJC. According to advertising material, the event contained discussions by members of the humanitarian aid organizations Israaid and the Multifaith Alliance.

The Capital Jewish Museum, in which the shootout took place, had recently received a security subsidy from the city, which was triggered by concerns in connection with its identity and a new LGBTQ exhibition.

President Donald Trump condemned the shootout in a social media contribution. “These terrible DC murders, which are obviously based on anti -Semitism, now have to end!” he wrote. “Hate and radicalism have no place in the USA.”

Isaac Herzog, Israeli President, called the attack “a hatred of hatred, anti -Semitism” and added: “We stand with the Jewish community in DC and in the USA. America and Israel will unite to defend our people. Terror and hatred will not break us.”

The Israeli ambassador in the United Nations Danny Danon described the shootout in a similar way as “a spoiled act of anti -Semitic terrorism” and expressed the trust that the US authorities would take “strong measures”.

The FBI examines whether the shooting was driven by ideological or religious prejudices. “Early indicators are that this is an act of targeted violence,” published Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI, on social media. Steve Jensen from the FBI field office in Washington said that the investigators investigate possible ties to terrorism or hate crimes.

In an explanation, AJC boss Ted German said that his organization was “destroyed” by killing. “While we are waiting for the conclusion of the police investigation – and ask all of our friends and allies to do the same – this seems to be strong that this was an attack that is motivated by hate against the Jewish people and the Jewish state. This senseless hatred and violence must stop,” he wrote.

This is a developing story.
