The High School considers a vigil for 4 girls who were killed in the post -school camp in Chatham, Illinois, by car

Thousands came out on Wednesday evening to honor them Four girls killed When a car went through a camp building in Downstate Chatham, Illinois at the beginning of this week.

Friends, family and supporters filled the stands for the organized vigil of the Glenwood High School in Chatham in Central Illinois south of Springfield.

The state police were called to Ynot Outdoors Summer and the school camp on Monday at 3:20 p.m. when a car fell against the east side of the building.

The car hit several people in front of the building before it was plowed through the building and met many inside. It finally broke through the opposite side of the building and stopped.

Four students were killed. The forensic doctor of Sangamon County identified her as Ainsley Johnson (8) from Chatham; Rylee Britton, 18, from Springfield; Kathryn Corley, 7, by Chatham; and Alma Buhnerkempe, 7, from Chatham.

“We can honor them and remember them how we live, we honor them in everything we do, and we can honor them and remember them how we treat others,” said a spokesman on Wednesday evening at the vigil.

Six other children were injured. Most were brought to the local hospitals by ambulance, but you had to take a Life Flight helicopter.

Illinois State Police identified the driver As a 44-year-old Marianne Akers from Chatham, Illinois. The state police said it was currently not in custody because her examination of the crash will continue. Akers is a former Illinois State Police employee and the local high school.

She is now an office assistant at the Illinois Department of Transportation.

On Wednesday, it remained unclear what caused the driver to crash. She was not charged and toxicological reports are still pending.
