Man who drives to fiancee's fatal crash scene dies in collision hours after her: Report

A husband and a wife who is to be died only for a few hours after they were involved in separate car collisions.

According to the local media outlet WAFB, 25-year-old Alexus Lee and 35-year-old John “JR” Collins had just bought a new house and were supposed to bind the knot in February 2026 before dying overnight on Friday, May 16.

In a press release that was shared by the Louisiana State Police, the officials published on May 16 published that they dealt with “two separate fatal accidents against La 67 in two different communities”.

They added that Lee's crash took place in the municipality of East Baton Rouge. The police reacted to the accident with a single vehicle in the Lemon Road shortly after 2:00 a.m.

“The preliminary investigation showed that Lee drove a Toyota Highlander North 2013 on La 67,” says the press release. “For the reasons still examined, the Toyota left the road to the left, struck a trigger and stormed.”

They added: “Lee was unhindered, fatal injuries and was died on site. However, impairment is unknown; however, a routine toxicological sample was collected for analysis.”

WAFB reported that Collins drove his fiancé crash scene when he lost control of his vehicle. The outlet also reported that the few parents of a 4-year-old son named Gabriel was.

According to the police release, Collins was involved in an accident with an individual vehicle in the Idlewild Road in the municipality of East Feliciana. The authorities reacted to the scene shortly before 3:45 a.m.

“The preliminary investigation showed that Collins drove to La 67 to La 67 in a Chevrolet Camaro 2016,” said the police. “As a result, the vehicle was not able to negotiate the right curve, lent the road to the left and hit a tree.”

“Collins was unhindered and was ejected from the vehicle,” she added. “He suffered fatal injuries and was passed on on site. Impairment is not suspected. However, a toxicological sample was preserved and submitted for analysis. Both accidents remain investigated.”

Relatives of the couple have announced how they will miss Collins and Lee.

“I love her and I will miss both and I will find the strength to continue,” Collin's father Arthur told WAFB.

His mother Sandra added: “He loved Alexus and everyone else they knew. Knowing was to love them.”

Sandra also revealed that the couple's son understands that his parents died.

“He understands what happened and he only has a little problem to understand that we cannot speak to them,” she said. “We can't see them, but he understands that they are sleeping and with God.”

Alexus' sister Dominque continued: “I know that they are here and knew that their child was certainly in good hands.”

In an explanation on Facebook, Lee's employer, East Feliciana Public Schools, prompted the teacher.

“We inform you with great sadness that Ms. Alexus Lee, graduate of the East Feliciana High School and teacher at the East Feliciana Steam Academy, died this morning,” says the post office. “Please wrap Ms. Lee's family in prayer and love during this difficult time.”
