Who are the 8 men who are deported to South Sudan and what is their crime?

The US Ministry of Homeland Protection (DHS) has published the names of eight men who are determined from Texas on board a controversial flight for the South Sudan, a lawsuit that triggered legal, diplomatic and humanitarian controversy. The eight men, all of whom were convicted of various serious violent crimes – murder, armed robbery, rape and sexual assault – are Cuban, Laot, Mexican, Myanmar, South Sudanese and Vietnamese.

DHS officers had defended the deportation as “uniquely monstrous and barbaric” and emphasized the need to deport them in the interest of public security. “We carried out a deportation flight from Texas to eliminate some of the most violent and terrible people who live illegally in the USA,” says a explanation of the DHS spokesman Tricia McLaughlin. She condemned Auerbian judicial intervention and described it as “absolutely absurd so that a district judge tries to dictate foreign policy and the national security of the United States”.

The deportation flight left Texas on Tuesday, although the government did not announce where it was going, citing security and operational problems. Previously, a lawyer of the Ministry of Justice told the court that the plane that the deportees had entered, but the goal was not unveiled and only agreed to discuss it privately with the judge. It was reported that the aircraft ended up in Dschibuti, although this is not confirmed.

Decision and criticism of the judge

The US district judge Brian Murphy concluded that the government “undoubtedly” broke his former court order in which migrants have given third nations to implement their deportation – especially if it pursued or tortured in the receiving nation.

Judge Murphy mentioned that the migrants had taken note of less than 24 hours, some without translators or inadequate time to consult with lawyers, and “impossible for these people have a realistic opportunity to question their distance in the South Sudan”. He instructed the men to be captured in US care until they have undergone credible fear screening, and has not isolated the possibility of future measures against the government.
