The governance analyst and lecturer at the Ghana Business School of the University of Ghana, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ann-Ann-weak has asked the state to continue the law enforcement of the former general director of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), and Kwabena Adu-Boahene, despite the threats by his lawyer, who could lead to the attack of the national security recipients.

In an interview with Ghanaweb on May 22, 2025, Dr. Otchere-Annrah that the risk of national security secrets by the lawyer of ADU-Boahene, Samuel Atta Akyea, makes no sense.

Governance expert pointed out that the threat due to the violation of national security secrets should not be an excuse not to keep civil servants who abuse the state's resources.

He continued to call the bluff of the lawyer and said that they should expire all the secrets they have, but Adu-Boahene must be pursued by criminal law and that all of his assets are confiscated together with those of his accomplices.

“He should be persecuted regardless of the information he has leaked through. If he has misused government money, he should be persecuted and nobody should remember (sic). American information has also been leaked.

“He can escape all the information, but he should be pursued by criminal law … It should be pursued by criminal law and we should not only be in a hurry to bring him to prison. They should confiscate all of his assets and the people involved,” he said.

“It is so humiliating and heartbreaking that we have no money to repair our streets that lead to floods, stop our lights, and in this way abuse people, and so that he threatens if they pursue me criminal, I will violate information. They should follow it,” he added.

The lecturer criticized the leakage of the letter that ADU-Boahene wrote to national security.

He wondered why the state would enable an accused person to write letters and have access to the media.

“You know that this cannot happen in an Arab country in which you are in a cell and still have access to the media and say all kinds of nonsense,” he said.

“If he wrote to national security, how was it leaked? That the subject of an examination should be alone. Has he left it himself, or was it the office (the national security) that she leaked?” he asked.

Background:

The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, submitted 11 accusations against Kwabena adu-Boahene, which was accused of having transferred 49 million GH (approx. $ 7 million) from the office's account.

A letter from Atta Akyea to the national security coordinator, in which Atta Akyea warned that the persecution of adu-Boahene national security could have implications.

He also claimed that the indictment of the provisions of Ghana's laws, including ACT 1030 and ACT 1040, violated.

“Our customer has instructed us to see a fleeting look at the case of the documents they inherited, underlines the fact that the core of the Attorney General of the Attorney General are affairs that deal for national security.

In addition, the intended public prosecutor's office violates the law on security and secret services, 2020 (law 1030) and the National Signals Bureau Act, 2020 (Law 1040) ”, part of Atta Akyea's letter.

In a separate letter to the national security coordinator, ADU-Boahene denied the theft of the state.

He submitted a list of individuals and organizations, which he claimed to radiate the competitive means to the MPS, including MPs who claimed that these payments were for national security purposes.
