Chatham Community gathers to honor crash victims at Wache

The Chatham community came together again on the football field of the Glenwood High School to honor life that was lost on Monday in a tragic crash. This meeting followed a vigil in Village Square Park on Tuesday, in which hundreds of members of the community took part.

Dr. Becca Lamon, Ballchatham superintendent, thanked the community and demanded constant support for students, families and employees. “We have amazing students, so this is just a mechanism that demonstrates the power of our student population and how passionately they are as a school district and make sure that they are also okay. So I support the efforts they have put forward,” said Dr. Lamon.

The vigil was organized by the Senior Council of the Glenwood High School, with the resilience and leadership of the students being presented. While the students prepare for the return to the classroom on Friday, the teachers return a day earlier to receive an apprenticeship.

Dr. Lamon explained that this preparation is of crucial importance to help teachers support students and manage their own emotions. “We offer you a training course on how you can carry out these community circles with your students if you return on Friday. But you also give you instructions on how to answer questions that the students may have. And how to process your own emotions at that time,” she said.

Dr. Lamon also confirmed that the school year will not be extended because the last few days have been shown as e-learning days. While the municipality and the school district continue to mourn, they encourage each other to offer support in this difficult time.
