Matteo Berrettini runs out of French Open because of an injury

Paris: Matteo Berrettini pulled out of the French Open due to an unspecific injury and is replaced by a happy loser in the main release, the organizers said on Thursday.

Playing at Roland-Garros begins on Sunday.

The Italian was 28th place last week in the third round of the Italian Open against Casper Ruud.

Two weeks earlier, he withdrew from his game in the third round against Jack Draper in Madrid due to a belly injury.

“I have no more time more than 100% willing to compete at the level that is needed,” wrote Berrettini on Instagram. “I look forward to participating in the grass and I am already preparing for my team. I am very grateful for the support that I feel and can't wait to be back on the pitch.”

Berrettini was the second of 2021 Wimbledon, but has been held back since then by nigic injuries.

Last year he retired on the eve of the tournament with a right foot injury from the Australian Open.

Two years ago he retired from the Italian to recover from a gastric muscle tear.

The Big Singing Berrettini also reached the US Open semi-final in 2019 and has 10 career titles.
