Even after a disappointing playoff last year, the Philadelphia Phillies decided to largely attribute the same squad this season.

However, the team made a really significant move outside the season and swung a blockbuster trade to add Miami Marlin's starter Jesus Luzardo to an already strong rotation.

Luzardo had shown great things on the hill in six seasons of the big league before the trade, but had trouble staying healthy. He only took 12 starts last year because he was plagued by back and elbow problems.

When they brought him to the team, the Phillies were clearly the feeling of managing Luzardo's injuries. And so far they have been rewarded for their faith. Luzardo was in his first 10 starts with a light and recorded an ERA of 1.95 with 67 strikeouts in 60 inner.

But since the concerns about his history of injury remain, the Phillies have made a decision to keep his workload as easy as possible by giving him an additional day between the starts.

“The next start will be in regular calm with a day off,” announced manager Rob Thomson, after Luzardo had gone six innings and 105 parking spaces against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. “Maybe it's time to withdraw a little, depending on what it looks like.”

The Phillies have decided to plan additional rest from Luzardos starts after at least one day, and the team wants to stay on this plan as much as possible. Thomson said he would also watch Luzardo's pitch counts and innovations.

“Oh, very close,” added Thomson.

In view of the fact how much success he is, the tight reins could disturb Luzardo. But when the Phillies are trying to lead a deep start to the World Series this year, it seems to be a priority to keep it healthy.
